Parker Premier MkIII

2010-2019

HISTORY

In 2010 Parker had used the name "Premier" twice already. Firstly in the early 1930 on the so called "Thrift time pens" that were offered as a cheaper alternative to the famed Duofold during the years of the great depression. They were a way for Parker, who's profits by 1932 had dropped to almost a fifth of the profits of 1929, to enter the market with cheap pens. The second "Premier" was made between 1983 and 1994 and was indeed a premium pen built on the immensley popular Parker "75", many in gold and silver designs.
In 2010 Parker decided to revive the model name for yet another high-end pen, priced between the top of the line Duofold and the Sonnet, they were made in France.
In a corporate PR document Parker specified the consumer targets as
#1: Aspirers (men aged 28, style conscious and high grifters that wants writing to be easy and pleasurable).
#2: Advocates of Culture (men aged 38 with high income and fine writing lovers with a strong personal relation with writing and pens).

The Premier III was first mentioned in the 2010 Parker catalogue as a demonstration of finesse, precision, art and experience. "Flawlessly crafted using precious metals and an 18K solid gold nib, Parker Premier is a prestigious, yet contemporary choice with its avant-garde design. Comfortable, precise and assembled by hand, Parker Premier offers an exclusive fine writing experience."

A somewhat oddity was the Custom "Tartan" with a tartan chiselled silver plated cap and deep black laquered barrel, palladium trim and an 18K gold nib, covered with rhodium finish. Offered were also two models made with successive coats of laquer, the first one with golden finish trim, GT, the second with a silver trim, ST, and palladium finish.
