Model identification guide: Oversize Lockdown

he Oversize Vacumatic was introduced in 1934. It is one of the largest pens ever made by Parker, approximately 15 mm Wide and 135 mm Long and certainly one that holds the most ink. The first Oversize pens were opaque but these were replaced by transparent versions in august of 1934. The Black Transparent actually had "windows" running lengthways showing the amount of ink left in the pen.

In 1935 the Black Windowed Oversize was replaced with an "ordinary" laminated transparent version. Also a new Oversize was introduced in Green.

By 1936 the new colour Brown was added to the line, the pens were also fitted with a newly designed 2-tone nib engraved "PARKER USA".

In 1937 Parker decided to remodel the complete line and the Oversize Lockdown Vacumatic was discontinued and was replaced by the famed Senior Maxima, which was more streamlined and sported the new Speedline filler.

There are also examples of later war time (around 1940) Oversize models which uses old stock pens fitted with newer broad band cap rings. These items are rather rare. Collectors refer to them as Overmax (Oversize Maxima) pens.
